LED televisions are currently some of the most sought after HDTVs today, and it is no surprise given their numerous benefits, among them the relatively low power consumption, the light weight that allows them to be easily mounted on the wall like a work of art, and their long life. LED TVs are also among the most stylish, with thin bezels surrounding the screen, almost seamlessly blending with it, and with a panel depth of only a little over an inch. They deliver stunning picture quality, as well, capable of producing very deep blacks and rich colors.
Like every other HDTV technology, though, LED screens have their share of problems, the most notable ones being issues with screen uniformity, meaning the left and right thirds of the screen tend to be brighter than the center, and backlight fluctuation. This can diminish the color accuracy and the depth of the black levels, but then again, are often subtle as to escape the notice of most regular consumers, which is why LED HDTVs remain in demand nevertheless.
Since their advent, various LED technologies and configurations have been used in HDTVs. Local dimming LED HDTVs, or those with a full LED backlight which can turn sections off as the scene demands, remain the most excellent, while edge-lit LED TVs, or those that only have LED bulbs placed near the edges of the screen, have become very popular and are fast catching up.
