HDTV Televisions: Pros and Cons

Do you spend most of your time in front of the TV? If so, it’s a good idea to save up for an HDTV television. After all, HDTV televisions have several advantages which usually outweigh its drawbacks.

One of the advantages of HDTV televisions is better picture quality. This is because HDTVs come with a better screen resolution, displaying a maximum of 1920 x 1080 pixels compared to the 480 lines displayed by regular TV sets. HDTV televisions offer a better aspect ratio, too, particularly since they are 33% wider.

High definition televisions also offer progressive scanning, which means they can display images in a single frame instead of separate ones. They eliminate ghost images while providing a wider viewing angle, too - all of which combine to create a sharper picture for everyone to see.

Aside from better picture quality, HDTV televisions provide better sound, too, providing a theatre-like experience in your own home. Indeed, HDTVs are equipped with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound signals, which are channelled through six different speakers which you can arrange throughout your living room.

Indeed, HDTV televisions sound awesome. They have drawbacks, too, though, one of which is the fact that you have to buy other equipment to complement your HDTV. You’ll need an HDTV tuner, for example, as well as a Blu-Ray player so you can watch High Definition DVDs.

The trouble of finding High Definition content is also a drawback of HDTVs. After all, what’s the use of buying an HDTV if you can’t get HD content? To get HD content, you’ll need to subscribe to your satellite or cable TV provider’s special HD programming, or learn some advanced computer skills to get HD content onto your computer then to your HDTV.

Finally, HDTVs come at a high cost, which is the biggest obstacle for most people who want to get one. Indeed, just the HDTV alone can be priced at as high as $3000, depending on the brand, the type and the size, while the accessories can add up to a few hundred dollars, too. A Blu-Ray player can cost as much as $1000, too.

Still, if you can afford one, HDTV televisions can be a true asset to your home because of the extraordinary viewing experience you can enjoy everyday. Indeed, you’ll have one more reason to spend more time at home and you’ll surely never look at TV the same way again.
