Many Plasma HDTVs come in 50- and 60-inch screen sizes, which can either be too small or too large. The Panasonic TC-P54G10, on the other hand, is just the right size, and comes with many excellent features, too.
Design
The TC-P54G10 is stylish enough, especially with its thin, glossy black frame – something not seen too often with Plasma HDTV sets. It also has a silver strip along the bottom just above a silver fade, invisible

speakers and a round stand which is more attractive than the rectangular one that accompanies previous models, though it doesn’t swivel.
Its clicker also looks different from that of previous models, mainly since it has extra buttons. It still lacks a backlight, though, but you won’t mind it since its buttons are easy to distinguish by shape and texture. The on-screen menu, on the other hand, remains the same, having the usual yellow-on-blue color scheme on the right side of the screen.
Screen/Picture Clarity
As expected of a Plasma HDTV, the TC-P54G10 produces extraordinarily deep black levels with superb shadown detail that make the images burst to life, although there have been reports that they start to fade away after a time. The other colors are also well-saturated but you’ll need to turn on the THX mode if you want them to be more accurate.
It delivers smooth motion resolution and resolves every line of 1080p and 1080i content, as well, though you might notice the screen flickering when displaying 24p sources since it switches to just a 48Hz refresh rate, and not the preferable 96Hz.
Features
As mentioned earlier, the Panasonic TC-P54G10 has a THX mode, which is one of its top features. This mode enhances the picture characteristics for a more amazing viewing experience, although it isn’t as bright as the four other picture modes provided. In addition to the five picture modes, this Viera HDTV offers enough picture tweaks, and also serves up some cool interactive add-ons, like access to online news updates, YouTube videos and even Amazon Video-on-Demand. Connectivity is solid with three HDMI inputs, two component-video inputs, a PC input and an SD card slot.
Indeed, there is more to love about the Panasonic TC-P54G10 than just its size, so make sure you consider it when shopping for a Plasma HDTV. If you want more accurate colors and better video processing, though, you might want to opt for one of the V10 models, instead, but be prepared to shell out more money for the difference.
