Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 Review

The Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1

Often, the price of an HDTV is an indication of its quality. The more expensive an HDTV is, the more features it has and the better picture quality it offers. This isn’t exactly the case for the Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1, though, which is an affordable HDTV but still offers good picture quality among other things.

Design

The TC-P50X1 has a thick, glossy black frame with just a thin silver strip at the bottom – nothing unique or eye-catching there but it’s not an unattractive piece either. It sports invisible speakers like most HDTVs today and a somewhat bulky, nonswiveling stand that blends in nicely nonetheless.

There is nothing special about its clicker, either. For the most part, it is the same as that of previous models, except for the addition of a few buttons which are not really necessary. The buttons are easy to press and vary in shape and color, making up for the lack of a backlight.

Screen/Picture Clarity

One thing consumers should note about this Viera HDTV is that it does not have the 1080p resolution that most HDTVs currently offer. Rather, it is a 720p HDTV. In spite of this, though, it offers excellent picture quality, with blacks that are impressively deeper than some of its more expensive peers, solid shadow detail and well-saturated colors, making the extra pixels hard to miss. The only problem here is color accuracy which is less than superb with tinges of green and bluish greys.

Because of its resolution, though, it is only expected that it does not handle 1080p or even 1080i sources well, though it delivers 720p images with striking detail. Motion also appears sharp and smooth like most Plasmas.

Features

In terms of features, the Viera TC-P50X1 lacks a lot, including interactive capabilities and picture-in-picture. Its picture controls are not as extensive as some sets, either. It has the basics, though, and also offers good connectivity consisting of three HDMI inputs – two on the back and one on the side panel – two component video inputs and an SD card slot for media playback. Sadly, a PC input has also been excluded.

The Panasonic Viera TC-P50X1 lacks a lot, indeed, but then again, its excellent picture quality should make up for it and the fact that it costs less than a thousand dollars – rare for an HDTV of its size – makes it well worth considering.

I guess the other reviewers on here have never seen a good plasma before. This TV was a total disappointment, NO outputs for sound or anything else, if you have to use an external device such as an amp, headphones, hearing assistance phones etc. don’t buy this, you won’t have a port to plug it into.

The Picture is terrible compared to the LG and Samsung. Limited picture adjustment parameters compared to other makes/models.

The sound is excellent though, I’ll give it that.

I bought this tv to replace a 32 inch panasonic that last over 10 years. This is my first plasma tv Why did I buy this brand and not one of the other several brands in the market? First of all panasonic is known for manufacturing high quality consumer products that you can rely upon to last long time. The second reason with my limited budget I did not want to spend over 1000 bucks for a plasma tv, so far every one in my household is happy with it, Is it going to last as long as my previous tv? that remain to be seen but I am hopeful that it will last a considerable amount of time the reason why I did not give it a five start is because I have had this prouct only for a month or so and havent have the time to watch it in a regular basis. If you have the money to buy the more expensive model by all mean do so because the resolution is higher and the picture quality is better. This is all folks I hope this review will be helpful good luck on your future purchases.

I got this plasma for my parents. I got them a 720p because they don’t know much about HD TV. And it’ll be a little bit until they get all the 1080p type devices. So 720p will show normal TV better than 1080p would. As a plasma it’s a pretty good TV and the features, like the SD card for them to show off pictures from their camera, are nice for them. I think this is a good TV for those looking for a big TV which isn’t top of the line. Someone just looking for a big TV that can look pretty nice when an HD signal is put in, or looks pretty good off of just a regular cable box. I like the TV for my parents, but for me I’d need a 1080p so I could play PS3 in all it’s glory. For my parents, they just like a big screen TV and how sharp it looks.
