Samsung LNT4671F Review
The Samsung LNT4671F
This is another high-end Samsung HDTV released last year that continue to be in demand due to its superb performance and excellent features. One of the best and most advanced HDTVs when it came out last year, the LNT4671F is a 1080p full HD resolution piece packed with a lot of oomph to justify its pricey tag. But if it was a bit expensive last year, buyers may snag this jewel for much less these days as manufacturers tend to slash prices to clear out inventories.
Design
The 71F series has a shiny frame and screen with clear and silver-grey strips on both sides that contrast with the high-gloss finish. The super sleek design also features touch-sensitive controls in the silver-grey strips while the clear strips deflect the sound of the side-mounted speakers. With the side frames wider than the top and bottom ones, the TV looks wider and more balanced, especially as it sits atop the swivelling stand.
Last year’s Samsung remotes were easy to use and the one shipped with the LNT4671F is no different. Unlike this year’s remotes which are fully backlit, the earlier remotes only has backlighting for the three most frequently used controls: volume, channel and device – the latter affording control of other devices attached to the TV. But we’ll prefer that with the user-friendly menu system, over the complicated new designs of the 2008 Samsungs.
Screen/picture clarity
The strength of the LNT4671F lies in its top-notch picture quality. While LCDs still lag behind plasmas in black levels and image contrast aspects, the LNT4671F certainly closes the gap even more, as it affords ‘never-before-seen-in-LCDs’ blackness, which makes images brighter and more lifelike. But even with this cutting-edge technology, there are instances when the blacks in this HDTV have a bluish tinge, affecting the otherwise superb colour accuracy.
The LNT4671Fis is one of the first Samsung TVs to offer 120hz. frame rates and dejudder processing, smoothing out jagged edges and minimizing motion blur. This TV also outperforms other LCDs in delivering uniform brightness across the screen, and the picture still looks good even at off angle position. However, the shiny screens Samsung uses are reflection magnets, and it is quite distracting to see reflected images off the TV when watching on a brightly lit room.
Features
The LNT4671F has numerous options for picture adjustment and colour temperatures. The Auto Motion Plus 120Hz dejudder has three settings – low, medium and high – which progressively smoothes out the onscreen action. There are energy saving modes that let the user conserve power by limiting the TV’s light output. With full connectivity options including three HDMI ports, USB port and RGB connector for PCs, the LNT4671F definitely gives users the best in home entertainment.
The LNT4671F may not be the latest HDTV in the store, but it is certainly one that has shown impressive showing that outperforms even newer sets. Thus, it is absolutely not a bad idea to settle for this TV, especially if you can get it for much lesser price than the newest models.

If you are looking for a TV and feel like going all out, this is the one to get. This TV is outstanding. The picture and colors are amazing!
I’ve had this for 2 years now, bought on Amazon. Absolutely love the picture quality!
There are two major issues with this model that a prospective purchaser should be aware of. Firstly, the speakers are in the rear and face the rear. This was not described in the literature on this item. Since the speakers face the walls and not the viewer, my neighbors hear the shows I watch better than I do. But I’m happy to entertain them. Secondly, the ballast that ignites the lamp in the LCD has the tendency to become defective in this model and cannot be replaced without replacing the entire power supply. If not under warranty, which runs only a year, the typical fix runs anywhere between four and six hundred dollars. In researching this problem I found that many other models of Samsung were susceptible to this defect. I recommend that anyone thinking of purchasing this particular model take note of the speaker idiosyncrasy and that anyone purchasing Samsung in general be aware of the potential power supply defect.
BEWARE!!! This product only has a 12 month Warranty. When I got mine in June 2008 I thought it was the greatest thing. Now it’s August 2009, only 15 months old and tonight I have a 5 inch wide red tinted vertical bar from top to bottom just left of the center of the screen. Of course, it’s no longer covered by warranty. At $2000, you would expect the product to last longer than 1 year. I can’t begin to imagine how much it will be to repair this problem.
The last TV I bought before this was a Samsung Tube TV in 1993 and it’s still working great.
i’ve owned my samsung 4671f for a year and a half now and i could not be more happier with it! great vivd, clear, sharp picture and the color scheme is perfect. it has a very good stereo sound and the unit looks just like it came out of the box last night. i paid $2,200.00 [it listed at about $2799.00 and more at most retailors] 18 months ago and that was pretty good for this unit and it was money well spent. a great deal for me! to sum this up after all this time the picture is stunning, the unit is flawless, i’ve never had one problem and i’m very happy with it!
This TV has a beautiful picture and the 120hz make a world of difference watching sports or fast moving pictures. I researched for months and it always came back to the Samsung. I highly recommend Samsung LCD’s. The look is really nice and the audio is great on this tv.
I’ve had the same problem as many others. My TV takes about 15 min’s to turn on and makes clicking sounds during that time. This started about a year and a half after I purchased it. Samsung knows about the problem but refuse to do anything about it. This should be recalled. Samsung, take a page from Toyota and own upto your mistakes and fix the problem with the capacitors. 10V capacitors on a 9V circuit doesn’t cut it!!! Take a look at all the complaints on Consumer Affairs!

We bought three of these Samsung LCD TVs. One quit working completely after warranty was over; another has started to have a problem turning off and we’ve only had it about 5 months. We’ll fix the one with the warranty, and see if it’s worth it to fix the other one. They have a beautiful picture, for awhile. Don’t be fooled, check the internet with a search similar to, “Samsung LCD TV won’t turn on.” You will be amazed at how many complaints there are about this brand of TV. No more Samsungs!
This was my first expensive LCD TV purchase, and am reconsidering ever doing it again. Bought this for $2099.99, worked beautifully for 2 years, then suddenly a long solid black horizontal line across the middle of the screen. Since I was out of the crappy 12 month SAMSUNG warranty, I took it in to my trusted repair guy, who diagnosed the issue as a defective LCD panel. Unfixable (unless you want to spend $1500, when you could simply replace the whole set for less.) Unfixable?? I spent two grand on this thing.
Come to find out SAMSUNG’S (and others’) LCDs and Plasmas are plagued with these sort of issues once you get out of the first year of usage. Not built to last, and SAMSUNG admits as much. My repair guy has trouble staying in business since most of these panel issues are unfixable, and everyone’s been tossing their old CRT sets away in favor of the New Wonderful.
For this kind of money, are you kidding me? Lure you into the HD game by the low prices and beautiful screens, yet SAMSUNG doesn’t stand by the product after 12 months? Let’s see… 12 months, $2099.99… that’s $175/month of guaranteed usage. I guess I should be thankful for anything longer than that? What a scam.
I bought a Samsung 4671 about two years ago. Not because it was inexpensive (it wasn’t), but because it got great reviews, and the people in the TV stores loved it. I was happy with my TV for about two years, when it started to take longer and longer to power itself on. At first, it took about 30 seconds (when it became a problem), and then about a minute, to the point of now, where it takes about 3-4 minutes. I then looked online and saw that this a common problem for Samsung TVs. I will NOT purchase another. I’ve read the part (if I could install it myself) would cost from $90-130, so I’m not optimistic about the price of having mine fixed. The larger issue to me is that after a hideous expense, that I may very well be having the same thing done in another two years.
