Toshiba Regza 52XV645U Review
The Toshiba Regza 52XV645U
HDTV prices are usually determined by their screen sizes and those above 50 inches often cost $2000 or more. The 52-inch Toshiba Regza 52XV645U, however, comes for as low as $1200, which means it offers excellent value – or does it?
Toshiba Regza Cell To Thrill Viewers Starting December
Toshiba Regza Cell – the world’s first cell-powered television and the company’s new flagship LCD HDTV model – will be available in Japan starting December.
Indeed, the 55-inch Regza Cell is the first in the world to use a Cell Broadband Engine, the same one currently used by the Sony PlayStation3, although the engine is technically not built-in but integrated into a set-top box that comes with it. This engine allows the Regza Cell to create images with unmatched clarity and detail, and combined with the model’s other features, make it one of the best HDTVs to date.
These other features include a 3-terabyte hard disk drive – that’s 3,000 gigabytes – two TB of which are used to transform the Regza Cell into a ‘time-shift machine’, allowing it to store up to 26 hours of programming from up to eight different channels. You can view all eight channels at the same time on your screen, too.
You won’t have a hard time looking for what you’ve recorded, either, since the recordings are presented in visual bookmarks or thumbnails, and you can even do a visual search of the programs being shown on your HDTV. For example, if you’re looking for a great movie to watch, you don’t need to flip through the channels. You can just access the program guide and scan the list of images instead of a list of program titles.
The Regza Cell also boasts of an enhanced LED lighting system that divides the screen into 512 individually controlled areas and produces outstandingly deep blacks with a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. It also has a 240Hz refresh rate, an Opera-based web browser and enhanced DLNA capability.
It even has a striking design with its slim, smoked aluminum frame and a seven-speaker sound bar neatly tucked in at the bottom. Just one glance promises you of a viewing experience at the next level.
The Regza Cell has a 1080x1920p resolution, although Toshiba promises a 4K or 3840×2160 model in the future.
